  2. Baby-boomers As the seventies approched the baby boomers were in their teens. With the mass majority of the population at this age, they began to doiminate society, including the fashion industry. They became the target market of the time period. This new clientel had energy, demands, and purchasing power.

  3. change • Bodies were bared • The bikini (1946) promoted strong, healthy, sensual bodies • The ideal body or standard of beauty became a long-legged, flat breasted, skinny adolescent with short hair • English model Twiggy swept the fashion industry in this time period, her look was the look everyone tried to emulate. • Couture designers lost clientele due to lack of desire for luxury and prestige no longer existed. • The relationship between sexes was in a state of flux. Women could wear pants and not be criticized for it

  4. No more couture • In 1965, André Courreges launched a French version of the miniskirt and vent that unsettled traditionalists felt threatened the institutions conservative image. He created an overall concept of the modern woman, offering his own ideas of elegance. • Pierre Cardin, Paco Rabanne, and Emanuel Ungaro- also up and coming designers in the time period- were inspired by contemporary plastic artists

  5. Stylists • The American concept of ready-to-wear clothes had reached France with first generation designers, know as stylists. The goal was authentic yet affordable “style”. But the underlying goal was of course to boost consumer spending.   7. Fabrics • Luxury is out. Comfort and inexpensive is now priority. • Jersey was acceptable to wear at all times of day to most places. • Fabrics that would be considered “mens only” fabrics were now acceptable for women to wear.

  8. Trade • America was home to rtw fashion, and the French shortly followed. However the clothing was manufactured in countries such as Taiwan, China, and Equador.
