How we are going to face climate change Mexico City’s answer: In 2013 Mexico City was received the “city climate leadership awards” and other environmental awards. So it means that this city have to become into a sustainable city …

  3. Mexico City • Is the biggest and (as you already imagine) is most polluted city in the country. • City’s surface: 2240 m2

Air pollution in the City • The main problem • In this city and in its metropolitan areas shares space for more than 6 million of vehicles which contribute with the 90% of CO2 and suspended particles • More than 20 million of people lives in the Metropolitan Area of Mexico City. • More than 23 million of trips in the metropolis dayli, and 80% by public transportation

  5. The dilemma • Continue in theusing of hidrocarbons • Transformthecityinto a real sustainablecity

Policy on transportation • More highways, more streets, more transport • Low prices on gasoline • No investment on public transportation • Any policy to stop urban growing • Credits on private vehicles • Large trips between homes and places of work • Public transportation do not cover all the city • Public transportation is old and crowded

Whatdoesthecityneeds… • Work together climate change policies: Real public – transportation policy • Increase public transportation to cover all the citizens demands • Increase clean public transportation • Reduce gcirculation in the city • Make expensive to have a car that pollutes more • Redesign the infrastructure of the City, considering the promotion of other kind of vehicles like bikes
