  6. Microsystem: Definition: This is the layer closest to the child and contains the structures with which the adolescent has direct contact. Relationship and Influence from Parents (Mother and Step father) and responsibility and relationship with Younger Siblings (Two Step Sisters). School plays the role in Darel’s education and social interaction with adolescents of the same age as Darel. It always plays a influence in one of Darel’s passion; AFL in which he is able to learn life and sporting skill while also maintaining a health lifestyle and a healthily friendships with team members Religion plays an important aspect in everyday life. as A force which remains present in Darel’s everyday activities. The community plays an important roles in the shaping of the aboriginal children and ensuring that the children are taught about their heritage and culture. CLICK HERE to return to Ecological Map

  7. Mesosystem Definition: This is the layer in which you can see the connection among the Microsystem that foster development in the adolescent. School , Darel’s participation in the AFL team at school can be seen in the aspect of Family Life. Darels’ family tries to support Darel in whatever he chooses to do like supporting him at athletic carnivals or watching him play at the AFL games. Darel’s Family also acts as a support system as he is now trying to finish his education and achieve his best in the HSC. Darel’s family are active members of the school community. The link between Darel’s Family and Darel’s Spirituality can be seen through the everyday life. With Darel’s family being deeply spiritual religion has been incorporated into everyday life. From the ideals of everyday being appreciative of the land to the gathering of the community for religion rituals and the practices of the Dreaming. In school life, the aboriginal community can be seen in its help to educate the younger generation like Darel’s fellow pupils about the Aboriginal ways, culture and history. The Eora tribe is also play a major role in helping Aboriginal students along like Darel in their education to ensure that they have the best possible futures ahead of them while also never forgetting their heritage. Religion and Community go hand in hand in Darel's life as all religious come from the tribes elder sin the community. As Darel is of the age of maturity in both the Australian community (almost 18) and the tribe community he is now of age to participate in the rites of manhood and passage. He is know invited to educate the younger generation of the beliefs, heritage and culture of his community. CLICK HERE to return to Ecological Map

  8. Exosystem Definition: This layer is deals with context not included in the developing adolescent. As Darel’s parents both work (Mother an E.S.L teacher in the primary school systems and Step Father a Carpenter) both work during the day from early ours the afternoon finish. It becomes Darel’s responsibility to ensure that his Step-Sisters are taken care till parents come back from work. With the lack funding Darel’s AFL team have had to cut down on the spending such as new equipment and new jerseys, training camps and player appreciation days. It has impacted the adolescents by taking away special events that are highlights to the season. With the Recession hitting all areas around the world, it hasn’t effected Darel’s family to the extent as other people. However his father work as a carpenter has suffered as people are now trying to save money and not spend money on rebuilding or renovations. The family has been tight on money through rough periods of time when the Step-Father hasn’t gotten a lot of works but due to the mother having a full-time secure job they have made it through. With the change in the HSC Syllabuses in such subjects as English. The year 12 students of 2009 have be disadvantage as they have now got no past papers or previous notes on the subjects to be able to better prepare themselves for the exams. Students like Darel who do well in theory based subjects but prefer the more practical based subjects get more pressure placed on them to do well since it is a new syllabuses.
