Network Goals • Expand access to international resources not currently available to North American scholars and students • Breadth, depth, quantity • Range of formats • Variety of information resources • Make distributed collections more interdependent and complementary • Powerful systems of access and delivery • Improved discovery and presentation

  3. ARL Board decision to recommend that GRN be a dues-supported core collections program - Feb 2004 Bridge funding of voluntary contributions of $1,500 each from 73 ARL institutions Visiting Program Officer transition Status of GRN

  4. ARL Role • Continue work with AAU to pursue broad goals • Establish conceptual framework • Provide leadership • Develop mechanisms and models to support • Build awareness and support for GRN goals in academic and scholarly community

  5. OCLC research project to document need To identify collection overlap and gaps GIS-based maps Need reliable sources of data on publishing output by country/world region Outreach to faculty and other users through regional forums Models of cooperation Enhance scale, scope and effectiveness of projects GRN Goals and Outcomes

  6. Similar motivation to transfer of Japan Project to NCC Transfer project administration (pending) German Resources Project Latin Americanist Research Resources Project Provide developmental, enabling, and operational support CRL Administration

  7. CRL Support • Assist projects in developing additional financial resources • Exercise stewardship over collectively developed resources and content • Operational: accounting, travel and meeting arrangements • Electronic newsletters • Web site revision and maintenance • Convene Global Plenary • Share information • Identify synergies

  8. Japan Project Interests and GRN Synergies • Newspapers • Statistical data • Japan Government information • GIF - ILL and document delivery
