  1. The Respiratory • System By R.NISHANTH B.Sc. D.T.,

  2. Introduction • The respiratory system is one of the most vital systems in the human body. It is responsible for the exchange of gases oxygen and carbon dioxide which is essential for life. This system works continuously to supply oxygen to every cell in the body and remove waste gases.

  3. Filters and warms the air. • Connects the mouth and nasal passages to the larynx. • Contains the vocal cords and helps in sound production. • A tube that directs air into the lungs. • Airways that carry air to the alveoli. • Primary organs for gas exchange. Nose/Nasal Cavity Trachea • Anatomy of the Respiratory System Pharynx Bronchi and Bronchioles Larynx Lungs and Alveoli

  4. INHALATION • EXHALATION The diaphragm contracts, pulling air into the lungs • The diaphragm relaxes, forcing air out. • The Process of Breathing • Breathing involves two primary phases: This process ensures the continuous supply of oxygen and removal of carbon dioxide.

  5. Oxygen from inhaled air diffuses through alveolar walls into the blood. • Carbon dioxide from the blood diffuses into the alveoli to be exhaled. • Gas Exchange in Alveoli • Gas exchange occurs in the alveoli, tiny air sacs in the lungs. • This process is supported by a network of capillaries surrounding each alveolus.

  6. Delivers oxygen to the bloodstream for energy production. • Removes carbon dioxide, a waste product of cellular respiration. • Helps maintain the body's pH balance by regulating blood gases. • Function of the Respiratory System

  7. Asthma • COPD • Pneumonia • Lung Cancer • A condition causing difficulty in breathing due to inflamed airways. • Chronic obstruction of airflow, making breathing difficult. • Infection of the lungs caused by bacteria or viruses. • Uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in the lungs. • Common Respiratory Diseases

  8. To maintain a healthy respiratory system: • Avoid Smoking • Prevents damage to lung tissues. • Improve Air Quality • Use air purifiers and avoid pollution. • Eat a Balanced Diet • Provides nutrients for lung health. • Exercise Regularly • Strengthens the lungs and diaphragm. • How to Keep the Respiratory System Healthy

  9. Conclusion • The respiratory system is crucial for life, supplying oxygen and removing waste gases. By maintaining a healthy lifestyle, we can ensure our respiratory system functions effectively. Take care of your lungs—they take care of you!
