  1. D. Yendell-Day Math 6 Social Studies 6 • PROFESSIONAL PROFILE • Certification(s): Elementary K-6 • Middle School Math 6-9 • Degree: Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education • University: State University of New York at Plattsburgh • Degree: Masters of Education in Middle Grade Mathematics • University: University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill • National Board Certified Early Adolescent Mathematics • Teacher of the Year, Wake Early college of Health Sciences, 2009-10 • Excellence in Teaching Award, UNC School of Education Alumni Awards, October 2007 • Commencement Speaker, UNC School of Education, August 2006 • Teacher of the Year, Moore Square Museums Magnet Middle School, 2005 • Teacher of the Year, Lufkin Road Middle School, 2000-2001 PERSONAL PROFILE I love teaching. Every day I gain insight into how people come to know and understand new ideas. I also love an adventure, so I take calculated risk and embrace change. I have been on leadership teams and taught at a year-round school, a museum school, an early college, a Montessori school, an all women’s leadership academy and a traditional school in North Pole Alaska. Before coming to HGMS, I was a curriculum developer for Amplify Learning writing tablet based middle school math lessons. I missed the “realness” of teaching middle school students. The real world is not something outside of school. It is here, happening every day! I have three grown children (all graduates of WCPSS), one grandchild and my husband John who is my greatest supporter for living an adventurous life. When not teaching I enjoy riding bikes, kayaking, sailing and making silver jewelry “All students WILL succeed”
