  2. Institute of Planning and Urbanism(Institut d’Aménagement et d’Urbanisme de Lille . IAUL) University Lille 1 (France)1. The institute of Planning and Urbanism of Lille is part of the Faculty of Geography and Planning (UFR de Géographie et d’Aménagement) 2. The biggest institute of planning in France more than 250 students, 30 professors or associate professors and more than 30 professional professors (Architects, Urbanists, Planners who have a job in a private company and are part time teachers in University)3. Bachelor, Master and Ph.D.

  3. A first year of Master in 60 ECTS 5 compulsory Teaching Units of 5 ECTS each (a teaching unit has approximately 50 teaching hours) (From September to January). Total of 25 ECTS. 2 elective Teaching Units of 5 ECTS each. . They prepare the students to the choice of their second year Master specialities. (Total of 10 ECTS) 1 compulsory 3 months Internship for 15 ECTS (from mid January to mid April). The internship is evaluated with the writing of a report and its oral defence. (in French of in English) 1 compulsory 1 month and a half group workshop in Lille for 10 ECTS (in Mai and June). Master Degree in 2 years with 6 different specialities / 1st year of master

  4. The contents of the 2 elective Teaching Units for the students who would like to choose a Master 2 with « Eurostudies speciality » • 1. Teaching Unit n°7 / « Europe : Space and Civilisation » • 3 lectures and a field trip • Lecture 1: General Introduction « Europe and its limits in terms of territory, identity… » / 12 hours in English • Lecture 2: European Cohesion Policy and its tools / 18 hours in French (could switch into English for foreign students). • Lecture 3:European Union strategy on Sustainable Development / 18 hours in French (could switch into English for foreign students). • A 3 days field trip (2011 Canterbury, 2012 Brighton…) the students have to do an oral presentation during which they present differences in terms of planning and urbanism for the visited city and the French. • 2. Teaching Unit n°17 / « European cooperation and urban project » • 2 lectures • European urban landscape in Western Europe (in French) • - European urban landscapes in Eastern Europe and the transformation of post-communist cities (in English)

  5. Access to Master 2 is selective • If students have more than 12/20 (French marks) in Master 1, they are automatically admitted to Master 2 • For entering in Master 2 « Eurostudies » they must pass an interview in English • All the lectures of Master 2 « Eurostudies » are in English • Other specialities are in French ; they are: • Urban project; • Project conception in Eco-development; • Construction accessibility and sustainable planning • Planning and patrimonial valorisation • Geography and territories

Master Degree in 2 years with 6 different specialities / 2nd year of master specialities Eurostudies • - A second year first year of Master in 60 ECTS • - 6 compulsory Teaching Units of 5 ECTS each (From September to January). Total of 30 ECTS. • - 1 compulsory 3 months group workshop in Lille for 10 ECTS (every Thursday from October to mid January plus every day from mid January to end of March. ) • - 1 compulsory 6 months internship for 20 ECTS (from mid April to mid September). The internship is evaluated with the writing of a report and its oral defence. (in English)

Teaching Units of Master 2 Every teaching unit is shared in two equivalent parts : - Approximately 20 h given by a professor or an associate professor - Approximately 20 h given by a professional professor (part time professor who has a first job in a private company or in public sector). In several teaching units this part could be replaced by a workshop or by foreign invited professors.

TU 3: European Union : actor and partner of territorial development Two lectures European Institutions Urban development in Europe One field trip : European Institutions in Brussels One professional professor: consultant in a private company which responds to call for application to European projects (Interreg…) Teaching Units of Master 2

TU 4: Doing the city and acting on Territories in Europe two lectures Urban project and attractiveness of cities in Europe Diversity of urban experiences in Europe One one week field trip / workshop 2012 München, 2011, Barcelona… TU 5: Principles of cooperation within the framework of Europe Two lectures Principles of cross-border cooperation in Europe How to manage planning in a federal state : study case of Germany One professional professor (former director of Interreg IIIB Northwest-Europe TU 6: Tools to cross-border planning projects Two lectures Tools and legal framework of planning and urbanism in France Tools and framework of planning and urbanism in Belgium (resp. in Brussels, Wallonia and Flandern) given by a professor of Catholic University of Louvain (B) One one week workshop in common with students and professors of 3 Belgian University (UL Bruxelles, UC Louvain adn ISURU) Teaching Units of Master 2
