  1. Question 3: what kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? By Nathan Smith

  2. My media product • My media product is an opening sequence to a drug dealing comedy spoof falling under the genres of Action and comedy. It also offers some obscure references such as the main characters are called Johnny and Kyle (a play off of the names Bonnie and Clyde partners in crime). Also the film is really aimed at an older audience due to swearing and adult content (drug dealing and gun violence) so it shouldn`t be distributed by a children aimed company I would say a company that releases minor adult films and also comedies (like disaster movie or The watch).

  3. What institutions would produce my product • Vertigo films • Vertigo films is a UK based film distribution company founded in 2002 by Allan Niblo and James Richardson. The companies goal is to create and distribute commercially driven independent cinema and since the release of Inception it has produced 28 films and distributed a further 35 more. Famous releases include smash hits like Streetdance 3D, horrid Henry the movie and the multi-award winning film Monsters. Vertigo films main goal is to try to produce the best British based films with all new releases along the way such as Monsters: The Dark Continent and Kill command. DNA films DNA films is another upstarting Film distribution company in the UK with famous releases such as Dredd 3D, Never let me go, 28 Weeks Later, Sunshine, 28 Days Later and shallow grave. They mainly focus on producing horror films or films of a dark nature or Genre, the company was set up by Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich.

  4. Final decision and why • My final decision for the company that I would chose to distribute my media product is Vertigo Films because I believe that they are the best option for producing my media product. When looking back at all of the previous releases that they have distributed they are all of different genres and they don`t end to focus on one specifically (examples of these being Streetdance 3D-a dance themed film with some comedic and domestic elements, Monsters and action horror based film mainly focusing on CGI and special effects and finally Inception a physiological thriller with action, jump scares and some low level horror elements). When compared to DNAfilms who mainly only focus on Horror themed films as their main focus to distribute films, our production is an action comedy genre so DNAfilms would not work for a distribution choice. Also by choosing Vertigo films it helps promote our production as a British made film both producing our skill as well as the productions ethnic origin. • Overall my final decision for a media institution to produce my product is Vertigo films because I believe that they are a reliable business with their previous successes with Monsters and Inception. Also by choosing them I believe that they will help in promoting not just my media production but also in promoting the countries capabilities in producing good quality films.
