Implementing tablet PCs into organic chemistry lecture: A blind integrated assessment plan of student use and learning Abstract The purpose of this study is to examine the implementation of HP supported mobile technology for teaching and learning in organic chemistry lecture. There are four interrelated but distinct goals for this investigation: 1) Document and analyze the use of mobile technology as a teaching tool; 2) Investigate how students use mobile technology to increase their understanding and comprehension of course content; 3) Examine how the use of mobile technology improves the participation of all students in the redesigned organic chemistry course sequence; 4) Compare the performance and achievement of students using mobile technology with those who do not; and, 5) Assess how student competence and confidence is improved through real-time diagrammatic exchange, note-taking, and the introduction of a fully digital notebook environment. The study is designed as a blind (to the instructor) assessment of student use and learning. We will present the results of the first semester of implementation.
