  2. WELCOME to the lmc • Mrs. O’Toole, Library Media Specialist • Mrs. Morris; Mrs. Couzens- Health • More than 7,000 materials in the collection • Hours: 7:30- ?; also open before and after-school as needed

Mission Statement The mission of the Hamburg High School Media Center program is to encourage the quest for knowledge and promote the joy of reading by providing free access to a variety of materials that meet both the educational curriculum and recreational reading needs of Hamburg High School faculty and students.

  4. The LMC offers opportunities for ~ • Doing research • Recreational reading and/or magazine/book selection • Quiet study time

  5. How Do Teachers Schedule Classes in the lmc? • Stop by, email, or call • Sign-up in green binder by desks at least one week in advance when possible • Online schedule: • http://www.hamburgschools.org/Page/7177 • Please notify Mrs. O’Toole of any special requests- ILL books (ex.   6. How do students access the lmc? • STUDY HALL- closed when classes • REQUEST PASS • LUNCH • CLASSSROOM VISITS • Individuals, small groups, entire class

STUDY HALL VISITS • Obtain a pass from the LMC~ get pass prior to scheduled study hall • LMC will open directly before and after-school for passes. – also available throughout the day • Report DIRECTLY to the LMC and sign-in at the front desk. LMC will take care of study hall attendance. (modified recently)

  8. Open periods will be posted on the dry erase board before entering the LMC doors. Teachers will get an email the day before!

  9. REQUEST PASS From a Classroom: • A signed, dated request pass is needed • Report to study hall first • Request passes honored all periods of the day • Sign in at entrance; pass in blue bin

  10. Lunch pass • Sign-out a pass from the LMC staff • Get pass Before lunch • Sign-in upon arrival • Remain in the LMC for the entire period • Can eat first and then report!

Lmc events • Many events hosted in the LMC before, during and after-school • Examples: New Student Breakfast, various speakers, finance academy, PTA meetings • HAP (Homework Assistance Program) held in LMC after-school Mon-Thurs. • Complete Facility Request Form to hold an event in LMC- main office

  12. EXPECTATIONS for Lmc Users The 3 Rs: • To be RESPECTFUL • To be RESPONSIBLE • To get RESULTS

  13. CIRCULATION GUIDELINES • Sign materials out at front desk. BOOKS ~ two weeks MAGAZINES ~ three days REFERENCE/RESERVE~overnight • Teachers may keep material as long as needed unless requested by another; unlimited borrowing privileges

Finding LMC materials • Newspapers- Buffalo News, Hamburg Sun, USA Today- on display by circulation desk • Magazines- Newest issue on display; old in bins • Books- • Search by keyword, title, author, subject, series • Get book reviews, summaries, author notes • Search from home • Search in any classroom

ILL/ordering • Borrowing books from other schools in the School Library System • If we do not have certain material we can request from other schools • Can order multiple copies/subjects if needed • May take one-two weeks to arrive • Requests from teacher/students for purchase orders taken all throughout the year • Budget frozen- orders early in year or June for following year

  20. Copy Machine A copy machine is available in the LMC for student use. Please see an LMC staff for assistance.

  21. Laminating & supplies • Can submit material to be laminated in white box by front desks • Usually done once or twice a week • Supplies for students available for projects; headphones also available

  22. Scanning and Printing • The LMC has a scanner available for student and staff use. • May choose to print to either the B&W (4000) or the Color (4600) printer.

Library club • Library Club- assigned to work/help in the LMC during study hall periods • Duties include: • check materials in and out • making copies for students • assist in retrieving books & magazines • organize magazine racks • assist on computers/scanning pictures • help decorate/set up displays • shelf-read • and more…. • Fundraisers throughout the year
