  8. Checking out Materials • YOU MUST HAVE YOUR ID CARD • SELECT THE MATERIAL YOU WISH TO CHECK OUT • BRING THE ITEM AND YOUR ID CARD TO THE CIRCULATION DESK

  9. BOOKS ARE CHECKED OUT FOR THREE WEEKS BOOKS CAN BE RENEWED ON OR BEFORE THE DUE DATE LOP-if your book is late YOU MAY HAVE SIX BOOKS OUT OF THE LIBRARY AT ANY ONE TIME MAGAZINES AND REFERENCE MATERIALS MAY BE CHECKED OUT OVER NIGHT ONLY WE CAN “HOLD” LIBRARY ITEMS FOR YOU Things to Remember

  10. Locating what you’re looking for • The library uses the Dewey Decimal system to organize materials • This system organizes everything into categories and subcategories • The nonfiction categories use numbers….

What does it mean? • When you’re looking for a nonfiction book, you need to know the Dewey Number called the “call number” from the catalog to find its location on the shelf. • For fiction, you need to know the author’s last name to find a book’s location on the shelf. • Think of the call number as the book’s address…. 796
