What is a tour operator l.jpg
What is a tour operator? Travel and Tourism Industry

Tour operators are also known as the ‘organizers’ of the travel and tourism industry.

Can you suggest why this may be?

Tour operators put together the various components of the package holiday. They produce brochures to advertise the holidays they offer.

Tour operators may sell their holidays a number of ways: through travel agents, direct via call centres, or through their own website, for example.

To which sector do you think tour operators belong?

Domestic tour operators arrange UK holidays for UK residents. Often these holidays include transport and accommodation arrangements and sometimes other products and services, such as insurance.

Examples of domestic tour operators include:

  • Pontins

  • Haven

  • Center Parcs

  • Shearings.

Working in small groups, select one of the above tour operators to investigate in more detail.

Accommodation can range from 1 star budget hostels to 5 star luxury hotels, and from bed and breakfast to camping under the stars!

The UK has an enormous range of accommodation to suit the needs of many different types of tourist.
