MOT/CAA Industry Mtg June 2008 • The Ministry of Transport and  Civil Aviation Authority held a workshop for the aviation industry on the  future development and introduction of PBN in the New Zealand air traffic system.   • Ministry and CAA had representations from the aviation industry for a coordinated approach.  CAA PBN Industry Forum

International participation • CAA staff are actively participating in ICAO Regional and Headquarters meetings on PBN. • New Zealand’s technical input to ICAO documents based upon its experience is resulting in changes to ICAO’s technical guidance material to States. • PBN task Force, PBN Study Group, APANPIRG, Sub-groups.   5. CAA • Established an Airspace and Environment Policy Unit, which will undertake much of the longer term policy development work. • This work will include the preparation of the National Airspace and Air Navigation plan and a related PBN implementation plan. CAA PBN Industry Forum

Airspace and Environment Policy Unit • Airspace and Environment Policy Unit which will be responsible for the preparation of a new Airspace and Air Navigation Plan. • This unit will be responsible for preparing a transition plan to steer the progressive roll-out of these technologies. PBN Related Work • Multilateration (MLAT) provides high accuracy surveillance in areas that are not able to be covered by conventional radar surveillance. • RNP-AR Queenstown Airport. • CAA is one of the first regulators in the world to put in place rules (Part 173) for the design of instrument flight procedures, which includes RNP approach procedures.
