  9. Mississippi River Flood Fight Status • NWS currently predicts a second crest on the Mississippi of 17.5 feet in New Orleans on 17 May 2011. Phase I Flood Fight began 14 March 2011 when the Carrollton Gage rose above 11.0 feet. • We are working with the with the local levee authorities: we are inspecting the levees along the Mississippi River from Old River to Venice twice per week. • Areas of debris have collected along the river side of the levee system from the previous crest. Levee Districts are working to remove this debris as possible. • The predicted crest is above the trigger point (15.0) for Phase II Flood Fight activation. • The Bonnet Carré Spillway is closed. With the predicted crest, 1.25 million CFS is possible. We are closely monitoring the forecasts and will provide as much notice as possible should we need to open the Spillway. • New Orleans District EOC open 7 days a week 0700 to 1730.
