TC Projects 2015 – May 2016: Progress Energy Savings Initiative - Energy Efficiency Standards for Battery Charging Systems [Armin Wegener (Author) (FRIWO)] • Revision ‘2012_09_03-Energy_Efficiency_BCS’ of the Database is in the members area.Review of the standards is raised at each TC. Energy Savings Initiative - General Requirement of Energy Efficiency for External Power Supplies [Jarmo Minkkinen (Author) (Salcomp)] • Revision ‘Jarmo Minkkinen 19.03.2014’ of the Database is in the members area and is up to date 6/4/16. It now includes the USA DoE with new requirements for EPS’s that have applied since 10 February 2016. A new regulation for ErP directive may be introduced by June 2016 and Jarmo will update the database when it is issued.Review of the standards is raised at each TC. TC Projects 2015 – May 2016: Progress (continued) Accurate Efficiency Measurements [Hubert Schoenenberger (Champ) (PULS); Andreas Stiedl (ex Artesyn); Vlad Grigore (Efore)]. • The EPSMA web public area now includes the pdf report and the two embedded XLS tools previously not available on the web: “DVM Range Error” and “Shunt Resistor Error”. • It is possible the report will be up-issued in the future. • The TC November 2015 discussed several options for a revision of the report. These options and new ideas will be reviewed at the May 2016 TC and contributors sought either from TC members or someone from their company. EPSMA TC report for MC Meeting 2Q16

TC Projects 2015 – May 2016: Progress (continued) CE MARKING GUIDANCE FOR POWER SUPPLIES[Dominique Hessmann (Champ) (Delta); Clemens Klemm (Siemens); Michael Raspotnig (PULS)] • This guideline, issued in 2005, is outdated and new LVD & EMC directives published in 2014 has become mandatory in April 2016. • Dominique Hessmann, from Delta, is championing this revision and has made some progress. The objective was to release the document by April 2016 to meet Delta’s target. • The May TC has a working session to attempt to answer questions on the new directive to help complete the project. TC Projects 2015 – May 2016: Progress (Continued) ‘Harmonic current emissions - Guide from the EPSMA’ November 2010.(Also known as the ‘PFC Guide’)[Milos Luptak (Champ) (Bel Power); Arthur Jordan (Vicor); Dave Collins (Artesyn)] • The EPSMA guideline is based on EN 61000-3-2: 2006 now superseded by IEC 61000-3-2:2014: ref https://webstore.iec.ch/publication/4149 • At the November 2015 TC Milos Luptak offered to champion the project to revise the guide and both Arthur Jordan and Dave Collins offered to support him with this. • A Draft update was circulated by Milos for comment on 5/2/16.   10. Review of other areas of interest New standard IEC 61204-7 edition 2.0. ‘Safety of Low-Voltage Switch Mode Power Supplies’ (Proposed in 22E/142/NP). The TC endeavours to keep up to date with developments: • Thierry Pelikan of TDK-Lambda, Member of French mirror TC22X (Cenelec) and TC22 (IEC), has helped keep the TC and MC informed of developments. Also TDK-Lambda safety experts raised questions about IEC 61204-7 Ed 2 and the implications to the industry of its issue soon. • The chairman of IEC-SC22E, Holger Laible, has kept EPSMA informed with presentations and answering questions:Presentations at the TC April/May 2013, 2014 and 2015* (*MC present).Presentation due at May 2016 TC • TC22E met end-2015 to review comments from National Committees on CDV (Committee Draft for Vote) of IEC 61204-7.   11. Review of other areas of interest……. continued HVDC-Systems for Telecom • A new champion is needed to keep a watch of development of ETSI EN 301605 and report to the TC. Review of other areas of interest……. continued Other areas of interest reviewed at each TC meeting- Solar & Wind Power- Future Trends in Semiconductors:Juergen/Francesco- Electric Vehicles/Standards: Vlad- Photo Voltaic- Electronic Lighting/LED: Armin- International Standards and Directives: All - EPSMA Publications: TheTC reviews a list of these to ask whether any needs an update.   13. Review of other areas of interest……. continued - Future Projects:The TC asks whether there are new subjects to follow for publication or as a presentation to the TC. Three areas are in investigation: • Power Supplies in Energy management systems (and their particular regulatory requirements) • Quality Assurance of firmware in digital Power Supplies. Any TC members with skills/knowledge in this area? • 380Vdc Microgrid for Energy Harvesting: A meeting on 10/5/16 has been arranged with Bernd Wunder, Group Manager DC-Grids, Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Systems and Device Technology (FhG-IISB).   15. Membership Update at May 2016 19 full members, 2 supplier members and 5 affiliate members. 13 MC members – blue in the above list. Must attend at least three meetings in the EPSMA financial year to get their discount and at least two to remain on the MC (Calendar 4Q, 1Q, 2Q & 3Q) Membership pack sent to Huawei via Andy Stiegel Universities of Paderborn, RWTH Achen and Frauenhofer Institute invited to become associates from AH contacts- waiting response

Cenelec ‘Liaison Organisation’ application status • Accepted unanimously by CLC/TC22 X committee members (Power Electronics) • Waiting for documents to sign to formalise • Will get access passwords to ‘collaboration tools’ when formalised • PFL recorded as Representative/expert • Some standards data for India and China markets coming through already. On website

Cenelec ‘Liaison Organisation’ reminder of conditions • Liaison Organization must: • Directly participate in Cenelec technical bodies. • be willing to actively contribute to the achievement of CENELEC strategies, as well as to the technical work related to the development of European standards and other technical deliverables • Benefits • No voting rights • Possibility to propose documents, technical contributions, give advice to nominated technical body • Access to working documents of nominated technical body • Cost • 525 euros per technical body, max 2100 euros

ECPE • Precompetitive Joint Research in Power Electronic Systems - ECPE Projects with focus on automotive & industrial power electronic systems as well as renewable energies and electronic power grids - EC or national funded research projects with partners from the Network • Education & Advanced Training - Expert workshops and tutorials for engineers in industry - ECPE online course ´Power Electronics´ • Public Relations & Lobbying for Power Electronics Have “one strong voice” of power electronics industry to public & politics • Seem to be more research focussed, only Delta as a ‘power supply’ member • No mention of commercial aspects eg unfair practices, dumping, counterfeits • No mention of liasion with standards authorities although must be important function • Some common areas with EPSMA eg • Recruitment listings • Study papers/research projects/tutorials • However – benefits are for EPSMA officials/employees only!

PSMA AGM presentation and collaboration • PFL gave 20 min presentation to PSMA at their AGM at APEC, Long Beach California, ~40 people • Emphasised ‘Accurate Efficiency Measurements’ white paper • Copy of presentation on website • PSMA thought EPSMA had ‘gone to sleep’ • PSMA now has up to date links to EPSMA on their website • Only collaboration suggested was for us to volunteer members for their Global standards compliance committee • PFL will keep them updated on EPSMA developments
