Channels “zoo” • HV and LV are used on different detectors /FE Electr. • Many grounding schemes are used • Floating channel: allows to minimize ground loop problems • Channel return & chassis ground: various levels of insulation available. • Polarity: may be fixed or reversible • Naming conventions may be misleading  Let’s try to make things clear! Channel Typology(Catalog naming) • HV Power supply boards:channels are polarized and referred to the system ground • Floating LV/HV Boards: a) channels are floating from the system ground up to 500V on a channel by channel basis (reversible polarity) b) channels are polarized and insulated from the system ground on a channel by channel basis (fixed polarity) • Common Floating Return HV Boards:channels are polarized with common return insulated from the system ground (typ.   14. Remote voltage sensing • Remote Sensing Line (SENSE +/-) to compensate for the voltage drop over the cable • Voltage is monitored directly at the load by an high impedance differential amplifier through the sense wires CAEN New Products

Line Drop Recovery without sense wires • LV boards feature a Line Drop Recovery (LDR) system which can compensate for the voltage drop over the connection cables • Vset is modified according to the Impedance of the cable (Rcable) • If the User wishes to employ the LDR system a short calibration procedure is required (trimmer) • Advantages: no need for sense wires • Disadvantages: less accurate than sense wires, dependent from Rcable variations (e.g. temp.)   16. Line drop recovery + remote sensing • Use of sense wires over the first cable segment (A, A’) • the remaining loss (voltage drop over rcable) can be compensated with the LDR • Advantages: better Vout accuracy, faster recovery to changes CAEN New Products
