Frankland CIMAP/Université de Caen OSA Student Chapter The University of Caen Basse-Normandie, located in the city of Caen, is a long-time established University in France. Founded in 1432, it was destroyed during the Second World War. Reconstructed in 1957, nowadays about 24,000 students in various fields carry out their college education in our university. Optics in Caen The entire research program in optics, photonics and material science takes place at « CIMAP » or « Centre de Recherche sur les Ions, les MAtériaux et la Photonique* » This laboratory is affiliated to both the University of Caen-Basse Normandie (UCBN), the Engineer School of Caen (ENSICAEN) and the main french research institutions (CEA, CNRS). * Research Center on Ions, Materials and Photonics City of Caen University of Caen Not only optics, but also nuclear physics (at GANIL, the National Heavy Ions Accelerator) and other research fields are being investigated in Caen. Chapter cimap.ensicaen.fr/ www.ufrsciences.unicaen.fr/ The CIMAP/ Université de Caen OSA Student Chapter was created in January 2010. It gathers 12 PhD students and Professor Richard Moncorgé as advisor. Soon, the chapter will organize its first activity: the presentation of the chapter to the scientific community of Caen. B.
