Review for block 4 unit 1

Review for block 4 unit 1. Review questions. List three characteristics of RIP (Routing Information Protocol) : The cost of passing through each network is the same. So if a packet passes through 10 networks to reach the destination, the total cost is 10 hop counts.

  1. Review for block 4 unit 1

  2. Review questions • List three characteristics of RIP (Routing Information Protocol) : • The cost of passing through each network is the same. • So if a packet passes through 10 networks to reach the destination, the total cost is 10 hop counts. • Based ondistance vector routing, which uses theBellman-Ford algorithm. • List three achacteristics ofOSPF(Open Shortest Path First) • allowing the administrator to assign a cost for passing through a network based on the required type of service. • A route through a network can have different costs (metrics) • Based on Link state routing which uses the Dijkstra algorithm. 3. Review questions • Calculate how many networks there can be in a network using IPv4 class B. The network number is 14 bits. Therefore the maximum number of the networks is 16284 (214). • What is the maximum number of bits I could use to identify a network using a classless network if the network is to support 30 hosts? 27 bits, because there is 32 available, 5 for hostes(25=32) Arab Open University-Lebanon Tutorial 16 Block IV

  4. Review questions 126.8.27.103 • 1- Classful or class less? • 2- What Class? • 3- What Network address? • 4- What Host address? • Answers are: Glassful, A, 126, 8.27.103 Arab Open University-Lebanon Tutorial 16 Block IV

  5. Review questions 1- define Switching: the process of transferring data from an input interface to a selected output interface of a device. 2- What are the two basic techniques used in communication networks for transferring data: circuit switching and packet switching. • 3- Define Packet switching does not require the continuous and exclusive use of a transmission channel. The data sent along a path is divided into packets and each packet can be delayed by a node until transmission capacity becomes available to transfer it to the next node in the network. Arab Open University-Lebanon Tutorial 16 Block IV

  6. Review questions • The dotted notation in IPv4 divide the 32 bits into how many bytes? four octets and then write each octet as a denary number. • Host names and addresses are stored in distributed databases called the: domain name system(DNS) for the Internet. • Define DNS. is a hierarchical, distributed database that contains mappings of DNS domain names to various types of data, such as IP addresses Arab Open University-Lebanon Tutorial 16 Block IV
