  2. The female sex cell is the egg or ovum. In this picture you see the ovum about to be fertilized by the sperm (the male sex cell).

  4. The Ovaries The ovaries are the female reproductive glands. They also help with the menstrual cycle (period). The ovaries help regulate the female hormones. Those hormones are estrogen and progesterone. These hormones control many characteristic of the female body , such as breasts, body shape, and body hair. The ovaries also produce the eggs (ova).

  5. Fallopian Tubes The fallopian tubes are passage ways connecting the ovaries and the uterus. The fallopian tubes usually measure 4-6 inches in length. There are millions of tiny hair-like cilia that line interior of the tubes. The cilia helps transport the ovum and the sperm through the fallopian tubes.

  6. Uterus The uterus is the enlarged, muscular, expandable portion of the oviduct in which the fertilized ovum implants and develops or rests during prenatal development; the womb of certain mammals. The uterus nourishes the fertilized ovum and helps it develop.

  7. Cervix The cervix is the narrow outer end of the uterus. The cervix allows the flow of menstrual blood from the uterus to the vagina. The cervix directs sperm into the uterus during intercourse.

  8. Vagina The vagina is the female sex organ. The vagina is a passage to the cervix and the uterus . It is also used during intercourse.
