  6. AO review meeting, Florence, November 10-11 2005. LBT First light AO system key-features Adaptive secondary pro: Optimal coupling with AO system, simple and effective: Overall AO system optical efficiency 0.5 including CCDQE Con: No easy measurement of interaction matrix Pyramid sensor pro: Pyramid WFS behaves better than Shack-Hartmann in faint and bright regime. Con: only one pyramid wavefront sensor working in AO. In use at AdOpt@TNG. • 911 mm convex secondary • 1.7mm adaptive shell thickness • 672 actuators • Stroke 30/40 Low order, 1 high order • Response time 0.5ms • Mirror fitting error 30-60nm • Small size unit 300x400mm • 2 channels: Sensing and Acq. • Ref. Star FoV 3.2x2.2 arcmin • Pupil sampling 30x30,15x15,..5x5 • Reference star acquired translating • the WFS board: 0.6mm/arcsec

  7. WF and WFS signal RMS for VLT adsec On sky results achieved with AdOpt@TNG SPWFS S±4l /D ? magnitudes AO review meeting, Florence, November 10-11 2005. What about cons ? A. Ghedina et al. SPIE 2004 MMT test ?

  8. AO review meeting, Florence, November 10-11 2005. FLAO general schedule & Milestones schedule milestones Acceptance test

  9. AO review meeting, Florence, November 10-11 2005. The FLAO Observing modes • Fixed Mode. Seeing limited mode (FXM) • MODS • LUCIFER • Tip-Tilt mode. Field Stabilization mode (TTM) • Auto configured AO mode (AAO). • Basic AO mode using look up tables for AO system configuration & and control • Auto configured Interactive AO mode (AIAO) • Interactive AO mode with selectable main loop parameters • Integration time • WFS CCD Binning • Number of corrected modes • Pyramid modulation

  10. AO review meeting, Florence, November 10-11 2005. Conclusion • FLAO system is made up of several contracts. • No contract cover the complete AO system telescope int., test and comms. • Two relatively new units are used in the FLAO system • LBT672 adaptive secondary, ensure better optical efficiency than conventional DMs. • WLBT pyramid wavefront sensor, better performance with NGS with respect to SH sensor (faint end, bright end) • FLAO schedule spans from today (Jan02-Jan08) to Jan 08. After February 05 AO progress meeting: • Milestones defined • Acceptance tests definition in progress (70%) • need some upgrades and syncro with LBT schedule
