  3. Communication Folders • Your child will have a folder that comes home each day. There are pockets labeled for items that can stay at home and items that need to be returned to school. There will also be a communication log so that we can write notes as necessary. Please check your child’s folder daily!

  4. Snack Fee $72.00 Pay weekly, monthly or all at one time. Lunch Money Please send all money labeled in a sealed envelope

Literacy • Reading: • We will begin by focusing on letter identification and recognition, identifying and making letter sounds, and reading sight words. • Each student’s individual reading level will be assessed regularly. Books and learning activities will be selected based on each child’s needs. • Students will be given books to read at home that are based on their reading level. • We will work in small groups and individually during our literacy time.

  8. Literacy Writing: • We will use Handwriting Without Tears as our handwriting program. • We will write in journals about topics like math, science, social studies and the world! • We will also be writing about what we read!

  9. Math Math Expressions Success relies on: *Parent Involvement *Games and Manipulatives *Games will be sent home weekly as homework

  10. Social Studies &Science *Science kit explorations *Project based learning *Emphasis on participation and incorporating technology

Some Extra Info *Classroom Newsletters will be sent home weekly. *The class website is www.clover.k12.sc.us/kinard This website has a lot of links that we will visit in class as well as student projects posted for parents to view. *Box Tops are something that is easy to collect and each one we collect earns 10 cents for our school. The class with the most earns a pizza party at the end of the year. So please save, clip, and send them in at any point during the year! *Technology – I love incorporating technology into my lessons, so get ready for your children to be talking about some great websites and projects! We will also be using iPads!

  13. You are welcome to walk your child to class the first week of school… After the first week, we encourage independence. Please allow your child to walk to class independently. There will be student leaders and staff guiding them along the way!
