  6. Learning About the Environment • Campers participate in daily hands-on lessons about conservation and environmental issues

  7. Enhancing Outdoor Skills • Fishing • Fly-tying and fly fishing • Archery • Night hike • Nature hikes

  8. Enhancing Outdoor Skills Backpacking Boating Camping Fire building Map & compass skills Leave-No-Trace principles

  9. Out-of-Camp Trips • Climb a mountain • Canoe on a lake • Hike in a state park • Explore a fish hatchery • And more!

  10. Hunter Safety & Shooting Sports Option • Courses are taught by DEC instructors and Environmental Conservation Officers • 12-14 year old campers may participate in Hunter Education • 15-17 year old campers may participate in Shooting Sports

  11. Career Exploration Visits to camp by Environmental Conservation Officers, Forest Rangers, DEC Fisheries staff, and other DEC professionals introduce campers to careers in conservation

  12. Returnee Sessions • Second-year campers • Advanced ecology lessons • Builds on campers’ past experiences

  13. Volunteers Selected alumni campers help with camp programs and serve as role models

  14. Camp Staff • Are highly trained, dedicated and caring • Have at least two years of college • Were often campers and volunteers at DEC camps

  15. 2010 Camp Registration Registration opens February 6 for sponsors and February 27 for all others • A full week of resident camp costs $325 • Camp fee may be paid by: • Sponsors • Parents • Camp scholarships are available from: • State legislators • DEC Campership Program

  16. DEC Campership Program • Camperships are available for youth who may not otherwise be able to attend to camp • Contact the DEC central office for more details

  17. 2010 Camp Sessions DEC Camps run eight, one-week sessions from June 27 to August 21 Camps start Sunday at 3 PM and end at 9 AM Saturday
