  2. Agenda Overview of R2010 SP1 FEA Parametric Studies Optimizing for Design Constraints Promoting Changes to CAD Q&A

  3. Assembly FEA Plassotech solver Retires ANSYS solver Familiar functionality • Static & Frequency • Loads & Constraints • Contacts • Reports Inventor Simulation R2010

  4. Multiple Simulations Material Overrides Component Exclude Ribbon User Interface New Functionality

  5. Localized Control for Mesh & Solver Convergence Adaptive solver for mesh density (h) & polynomial order (p) Parametric Tables & Plots Optimization New Functionality

  6. Demo Example Image courtesy of Magic Wheels

  7. A crucial part of design is exploration of alternatives Inventor Simulation facilitates exploring “configurations” before committing to the master CAD model Parametric Studies How many ribs are needed?

  8. Note extra rib As more parameters are added, the “space” can get quite large. Consider: Rib offset: 40, 50, 60 mm Thickness: 4, 5 mm => 3x2 = 6 configurations Parametric Space Rib offset Thickness

  9. Add one more… Rib offset: 40, 50, 60 mm Thickness: 4, 5 mm Internal thickness: 4, 4.5, 5 mm => 18 potential configurations Parametric Space

  10. Use “Show Parameters” from the browser, then toggle to include them in the table Parametric Space

  11. Inventor is called to generated the geometry, giving the full breadth of modeling potential. Assembly constraints, conditional features, iLogic… all are updated appropriately. Configuration Generation

  12. Design Constraints Effects of changes on Results Parametric Table Tool Goals Design Parameters Slider to change value

  13. By default, only the “edges” of the parameter space are solved. Requests for results within the space will be interpolated. Specific solves can also be requested. Smart Sampling

  14. Notes: Only the values in the range can be solved; there is no inter-range interpolation New range values added outside the space will not be interpolated Smart Sampling

  15. Track the effect of a Parameter on the current Result Plot

  16. Target a Goal for a Design Constraint: Minimize Upper / lower Limit Stay in / out of range The system will seek the configuration to realize the goal Optimization

  17. Once a satisfactory configuration is found, all parameter values can be published back to the CAD. Promotion to CAD

  18. Materials and Loads are not supported by the Parametric Tables, however… Use Copy Simulation, adjust materials or loads, then Batch solve Advanced Topics: Materials and Loads
