NWC SAF Current Status • 72 users at the date • Help Desk upgrade by end 2009 • Migration of Reference System to Blade Frame environment early 2010 • SAFNWC/MSG & SAFNWC/PPS SW v2010 distribution early 2010 with the • following improvements: Cloud Mask (MSG): Improvement using HRV Cloud Type (MSG): Cloud phase improvement Reduction of low clouds mixed with mid-level clouds in case of thermal inversion Cloud Top Temperature/Height (PPS): New algorithm combining imager and sounder data Convective Rainfall Rain: Use of lightning information to detect convective pattern High Resolution Winds: Winds from IR channels for night time Adaptation to Rapid Scan Automatic Satellite Image Interpretation: Flexibility using different geographical regions Rapid Developing Thunderstorms: New cell definition algorithm New output for climate use (trajectory) SEVIRI Physical Retrieval: Implementation • CDOP-2 preparations on going

(Brain storming) • Be inventive, not only following the current products but offer new products. • Take into account the comments made during the two previous phases. • Users’ Survey • What do we expect from the users’ answers? • • To have a knowledge of the current use and benefits of the SAFNWC products • • To assess future improvements of the SAFNWC products for CDOP-2 • • To obtain inputs for new products for CDOP-2 • • To obtain inputs for MTG development • 2010 Users’ Workshop: 15-17 March 2010, AEMET HQ, Madrid (Spain) • First day (afternoon session starting at 14:00) • Welcome, Plan for the WS and General description of the Nowcasting SAF; • NWC SAF Services assessment presentation. • Second day (morning and afternoon sessions) • Assessment of the products quality: partners’ presentations on product validation results; • Assessment of the products usefulness: users’ presentations; • MTG presentations. • Third day (morning session ending at 14:00) • User Survey results presentation; • New Users’ Requirements for CDOP-2; • Plenary session: conclusions. New products’ proposals are welcome for next CDOP-2 preparation meeting 26-27 November 2009. e-mail to pif@inm.es
