  3. Digital Television • Extra TV channels - eg BBC3, ITV2 and E4. • Access to digital radio through your TV. • Improved quality of TV picture. • New features - including on-screen TV listings, true widescreen picture and red-button interactivity. • Some boxes allow Internet access eg YouTube • Some boxes also have special features for people with visual and hearing problems e.g. Audio

  4. Virtual Reality • A virtual reality programme presents you with multi-sensory information and 3D effects in real-time. • When you interact with a virtual reality program you have a sense of being completely immersed in it.

  5. Examples of VR • Virtual tours of buildings • Training Airline Pilots • Driving Lessons • Fun

  6. Virtual tours of buildings • Many museums, schools, universities etc now offer virtual tours of their buildings on their websites • these give you the impression of walking through the actual museums, making your own decisions about where to go.

  7. Training airline pilots • Flight simulators allow trainee pilots to experience conditions such as thunderstorms, fog, engine failure – without taking a plane off the ground • The main advantage of this is that pilots can be presented with what look like dangerous situations, and learn how to deal with them, but their lives are not at risk.

  8. Driving Lessons • The British School of Motoring have a driving simulator which allows learner drivers to get the “feel” of a car and learn the controls without having to take a real car out.

  9. VR can be fun!!! • Learning to play golf • Skiing down a mountain • The “Star Tours” ride in Walt Disney World • VR games
