  1. Music Magazine Evaluation

  2. Forms and Conventions The magazine will have a focal image of the key artist of the week, month or year which is typical for a real music magazine to do. The focal image of a music magazine will be placed in the middle with text going around the image or on the side with the text at the side of the image. My magazine has the focal image to the side and has the text to the side of it. In most music magazines they will place their barcodes at the side of the page in the corner and on its side which is what I have done with my music magazine.

  3. Representational Issues My magazine is aimed at people for a young age. It is a Hip-Hop/R&B genre which most people like to listen to as a first choice of music. Magazines like “Vibe”, “The Source” and “XXL” are big magazines which most fans of Hip-Hop and R&B would normally read. My magazine represents the style and similar artists as a real music magazine like “Vibe”, “The Source” and “XXL”.

  4. Institutions The institutions which could distribute my magazine would be the internet. There will be the magazines web page which will allow you to send an order over to your home. Another institution which will distribute my music magazine could be WH Smiths. This is because WH Smiths will sell loads of music magazines with different genres. My magazine will be apart of the niche market. The niche market will only sell small magazines like my one and not the big magazines like a top gear magazine. So all of the newsagents wouldn’t ever sell any of my music magazines.

  5. Target Audience My target audience will be from the age group ranging from 16 years to the mid 20 year olds because my music magazine is a hip-hop/ R&B genre and it is typical for this age group to listen to this music, so releasing a music magazine of hip-hop/R&B genre to this age group would be a good thing because you would get the most out of the target group. There could be a younger age group which might read this my music magazine which could be from around 15 to about mid 20 years olds. This is because you would find that most teenagers in secondary school will listen to this music.

  6. Addressing the Readership When I made my music magazine I had used my focal image as a new artist which is still in school but has made it into the mainstream. The magazine could attract a few of the audience from secondary schools, but you always tend to find people who are in secondary school will still find out music which is for a higher age group. The music genre I have chose is always popular choice with most people between my age group, so releasing a new magazine for to experience will bring people towards my magazine. The strap line which I have used says ‘We’ve Seen The Music, So Should You’ this might attract readers to my magazine because it is saying that the magazine will give you information in which you have never heard before.

  7. Technical/Construction Issues From this music magazine while creating and developing it, I have learned that you will need to try out different ways and styles of all types of music magazines just to make your own. The music magazine which I have made I had to take loads of pictures which helped me decide the focal image. From this I have learned that you will always need to take a lot of images which will make it easier for you to pick the focal image because when you have more images you can always change what image you want because not all of the images might be the one which you want it to be. I have also learned that putting different fonts and one image together can change the look of your music magazine which will make your magazine appear much more attractive to the reader.

  8. Comparisons Between Prelim And Main Tasks With my school magazine cover I had only used basic knowledge of Photoshop to create it. I could see that the school magazine will have many changes to it from when I had started to look into and develop my music magazine. When I was actually making my music magazine I had to use more advanced techniques such as cutting out an object using the “magnetic lasso tool” and lowering the “transparency” of the focal image and also use a “gradient” of two colours instead just one solid colour. The school magazine preliminary task has helped me by showing me what I had to do with the main task and also how much more I had to do in the main task.
