  1. Music Magazine analysis!!

  2. BILLBOARD… MASTHEAD: The masthead of the magazine is in a central position which immediately attracts the readers attention, not only because of the size of the text but also because the use of bright colours within the masthead itself. The masthead will also attract readers as it is what makes the magazine recionanisible to the target audience. COLOUR SCHEME: The colour scheme for this magazine is very simplistic yet powerful. The colours used are very bright especially as they are used on the back and white background image. I feel that this magazine has got the correct balance of colour on the front cover as the colour is just enough to grab the attention of the reader, yet not to overwhelming for the reader. TEXT: All of the text on the front cover is presented in simple fonts, so that it is clear what is being advertised to the customer. As well as this all of the sub headings are in the same font and all of the other text below them is also in the same fonts, this gives the magazine a very organised feel.In addition to this the text varies in size across the magazine drawing the customers attention to the most exclusive story's, which entices them to purchase the magazine. Furthermore colloquial language is used on the front cover to give the page a more relaxed atmosphere, this has been pursued as this more general, every day language appeals to the target market more than formal in depth text. IMAGE: There is only one image on the front cover of this magazine, which increases the simplicity of the magazine. The main background image of “Drake” has been edited to black and white which improves the use of the colours. Drakes head has been placed in a central position on the magazine cover, which makes it the first thing that is seen on the cover. As well as this the image is quite intimate as Drakes eyes are focusing straight into the camera which comes across to the reader that he is looking at them. His expression in the image is very serious with a masculine pose, which I feel tones down the use of the bright colours. TARGET AUDIENCE: the target audience for this magazine varies from young teens to young adults of both genders. I think that this magazine applies its self to this target audience as the magazine contains chart music however, it does also cover a range of genres.

  3. VIBE… Masthead: The masthead is situated at the top of the page in bold bright text. In addition to this some of the masthead is hidden by the top of Kanye's head however, to do this the magazine publishers would have to be very confident that people would still recognise the magazine. Colour scheme: The colour scheme of this magazine is very simple and bright compared to some other magazines that are available. The use of the bright blue and pink link in with the masthead of the magazine as these colours are both very vibrant. Furthermore the photographer for the magazine has linked the image and the colour scheme together with the collar of Kanye's jacket, this gives the reader the impression that he is very involved with the magazine. Target audience: The target audience for this magazine is also going to be the younger generation of both male and female, his is shown by the use of bright vibrant colours and the image of Kanye also grabs teenage attention as he is a huge artist right now. Image: As well as the other magazine cover this one also uses just a single image on the front cover, the image is placed centrally so that there was room surrounding it for the text and headlines. The image relates to all of the text running down the left hand side of the cover which make the image very appropriate for the cover. The photographer also got Kanye to connect with the audience by looking straight down the camera (direct address). Text: The text on the cover of the magazine appears in a range of sizes, fonts and angles. The text is situated in many different places on the cover, for example the top of the page has a banner running across with a medium sized exclusive, this is paced at the top of the magazine so that when the magazines are stacked on the shelf in a shop, this is what the customer sees, therefore this has to be striking and impressive so that they purchase the magazine. In addition to this all of the text down the right hand side is all in the same font and size which shows the reader that they are equally big articles in the magazine however, on the left hand side the text is more bold and much bigger also “the truth hurts KANYE WAST ‘I AM RAP’ is slightly slanted, although this is a small edit this will draw the reader in to read the article.

  4. NME… MASTHEAD: The masthead of the magazine is situated to the left hand side of the page which immediately attracts the readers attention, not only because of the size of the text but also because the use of bright colours within the masthead itself. The masthead will also attract readers as it is what makes the magazine recionanisible to the target audience. COLOUR SCHEME: The colour scheme for this magazine is very simplistic yet powerful. The colours used are very bright especially the bright pink bold font. I feel that this magazine has got the correct balance of colour on the front cover as the colour is striking yet sticks to a simple colour scheme which may attract the reader, as even with bright colour the magazine still looks professional. IMAGE: There is only one image on the front cover of this magazine, which increases the simplicity of the magazine. The main background image of “Rhianna” has been edited to make the colours in her make up stand out more, which improves the use of the colours. Rhianna's body has been placed in a central position on the magazine cover, which makes it the first thing that is seen on the cover. As well as this the image is quite intimate as Rhianna’s eyes are focusing straight into the camera which comes across to the reader that she is looking at them. Her expression in the image is very serious with a strong pose which shows her strong personality. TEXT: All of the text on the front cover is presented in simple fonts, so that it is clear what is being advertised to the customer. As well as this all of the sub headings are in the same however, the text below the sub headings are in a different font to make the headings stand out .In addition to this the text varies in size across the magazine drawing the customers attention to the most exclusive story's, which entices them to purchase the magazine. Furthermore colloquial language is used on the front cover to give the page a more relaxed atmosphere, this has been pursued as this more general, every day language appeals to the target market more than formal in depth text. TARGET AUDIENCE: the target audience for this magazine varies from young teens to young adults of both genders. I think that this magazine applies its self to this target audience as the magazine contains chart music however, it does also cover a range of genres as you can see from the list of artists on the bottom left of the cover.

  5. VIBE CONTENTS PAGE… IMAGE: there is only one image on the contents page. The image is spread over the whole of the contents page. The large image suggests that the main focus of this page is the image, this is also clear from the small amount of writing and small font size in which the content has been written in. LAYOUT: this contents page is very minimalistic. The minimalistic look of the contents page, adds to the idea that the image is the most important part of this page. OTHER: The by-line of the image is situated at the very bottom of the page, adding to the minimalism effect of the page. The Dateline of the magazine is located next to the magazines logo in the top right corner. Colour scheme: the colour scheme of this contents page is very simplistic, with the two main colours being white and burgundy. I feel that having a simple colour scheme defiantly gives the magazine a more professional look. As well as this, the magazine company have tried to tie in the colour scheme within the main image, for example the part of the image that stands out the most is the beads around the artists neck, the photographer has tried to incorporate the red colours into the beads in the image in order to link the image to the rest of the page.

  6. Q MAGAZINE DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD… TEXT: The large “L” takes up the whole of the right hand page of the double page spread, the letter links to the artist Lady Gaga. The colour of the “L” represents the Q magazine style and logo. Furthermore the large “S” at the start of one of the paragraphs suggests that this is the start of the main part of the article. IMAGE: the audience can clearly see that the large image of Lady Gaga has some significance as it takes up the whole of the left hand page of the double page spread. The photo has been edited into black and white, which makes it look classy and sophisticated. LAYOUT: the article is set out into columns which makes it easier for the readers to follow the story. By setting it out into columns it makes that magazine look neater and more professional. The text is black which also makes it easier to read as it is on a white background. The colour of the text also links in with the colour of the image on the left hand side of the double page spread. OTHER: in the bottom of the right hand page “Q” have their logo which is very small. It is red with a white “Q” inside and this makes the pages look more professional when done this way. The red “Q” logo matches the red letter “L” on the right page. This makes the pages look well set out and consistent.
