  1. Example Interactive Design Brief TJ 501 Technology and Knowledge Communities Name: Rupert Russell Student Number: 2412345 Tutorial Group: C Due: Thursday April 29, 2004 at 9.00 pm Submitted: April 29, 2004 8:45 pm

  2. CSF II Level 3 TechnologyLevel 3: Materials and movement Learning Outcome 3.2 Develop products safely using a variety of processes and evaluate with reference to the appropriateness of the materials used.

  3. CSF II Level 3 Learning Outcome Indicators This is evident when the student is able to: • modify the sequence of the technology process phases in response to advice • describe at least two simple systems in terms of materials, moving parts and how they work • develop designs and plans for constructing products, some of which have moving parts • select some appropriate tools and equipment and use a variety of joining techniques to safely construct products • explain, in terms of their characteristics, how the materials used were appropriate for the products.

  4. Use the technology Process

  5. Investigate • Consider possible designs for your vehicle. • Investigate the range of materials available. • What will you use for the wheels? • What will you use for the body? • How many wheels will you use? • How will you attach the wheels? • How large will you make your vehicle?

  6. Design Your task is to design a vehicle that can role down a ramp and reach the bottom intact. Requirements your vehicle must: • have between 3 and 4 wheels; • travel in a straight line; • role freely; • be between 10 – 35 cm in length; • be between 10 – 25 cm high; • use only recycled materials.

  7. Design cont… You must draw a design for your vehicle including dimensions and a list of materials required. Elevation: 25 cm 35 cm

  8. Design cont… You must draw a design for your vehicle including dimensions and a list of materials required. Plan: 35 cm 15 cm

  9. Design cont… Materials: • 1x Cardboard box for body • 4 x CD-ROM “Coasters” for wheels • Straws for axles • Paper • PVA Glue • Blue tack • Sticky tape

  10. Produce Using your design and the materials you have collected build your vehicle. Use caution when cuttingpaper and cardboard. Never cut towards yourself or another person. Ask for assistance from the teacher when making holes for the axels!

  11. Evaluate Test your vehicle on the ramp provided. Does it travel in a straight line? Did it make it to the bottom intact? If not you will have to INVESTIGATE why not. Change the DESIGN. PRODUCE a new model EVALUATE the new improved design.

  12. Easy peasy Sinch Super Challenge Choose your level Note: The advance on click option has been turned off for this slide the only way to progress is to use one of the above hyperlinks.

  13. Brief: Design a vehicle that can role down a ramp 2 meters long and 30 cm wide. Design a Vehicle - Easy Continue

  14. Brief: Design a vehicle that can role down a ramp 2 meters long and 15 cm wide in less than 10 seconds. Design a Vehicle - Sinch Continue

  15. Brief: Design a vehicle that can role down a ramp 2 meters long and 10 cm wide in less than 5 seconds. Design a Vehicle - SuperChallenge Continue

  16. Make sure you vehicle does not crash!

  17. If it does crash investigate why, change the design if necessary. Make aProduce new prototype and try again. Make sure you vehicle does not crash!

  18. Good Luck. See the crash again Make sure you vehicle does not crash!
