  1. A Tour Through the Human Body Mary Kozak Placer Hills School Meadow Vista, CA 95722

  2. Expectations/what I learned • How to put a lesson on a web site • How to maneuver between a local server and a remote server • How to become technologically literate and maintain enthusiasm for technology • How to become truly “linked” to my curriculum • Power point, Excel, Netscape Composer

  3. Outcomes • I learned the following: • How to search for and create cool links for my website • The difference between a web posted and a web integrated web site. • Excel and Powerpoint are my friends • Technology is only a timesaver if you have time for it

  4. Other outcomes • My web site is actually a reality • I am excited to be able to use it in the future • I have made great “links” with other teachers. • I have stuck with this project for nearly 10 months

  5. Student Data All of my students were able to demonstrate proficency with the content of this unit. Some students really embraced the project and did better on that than on the post test.

  6. Reflections on the Process • I have learned so much, but I am a bit on overload. • I would have liked to learn all the “mechanics” of web building without the stress of having to create a teaching website at the same time. • I could never have done this in isolation--thanks to all who helped me

  7. Reflections on the Website • I am happy with the content of my website. • I would like to have accomplished more at the summer workshop in terms of “bells and whistles”. • I will definitely use the web site next year--my team will be thrilled.

  8. Shortcomings • Too much brain space was taken up with the mechanics of this project. • My students have such a limited time in the lab, that it was only possible to test out this website with a small group. • Frustration can lead to apathy--not where I’d like to be with my curriculum.

  9. Revisions • No major revisions have been made since the web site has been tested out. • Most revising came over the last 10 months as content was being added. • Next year, I will be able to map out a good block of time to really work with the website--there may be a few revisions then.

  10. Successes • My students were thrilled to have a finished product. • They were less thrilled to have to plan it out first, but it went mores smoothly because we planned first. • They were able to teach me more about power point. • One child was able to do much of the work while on an independent study (with access to the internet) • Students/parents were impressed to My students were able to synthesize concepts into have a website created by their teacher.

  11. Summary • This CTAP project has brought with it many lessons about technology and its place in the classroom. • Teachers and students can get easily lost in the maze of information and lose sight of the need to really process information. • Know your purpose for using technology, and keep your purpose in focus.

  12. Examples of Student Work The following slides are examples of student power point presentations on THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM STUDENT WORK

  13. The Journey of a Hamburger • Introduction • Process 1 • Process 2 • Process 3 • Process 4 • The Story Ends…..

  14. Hello, I’m Mr.. Hamburger and I will tell you about one of my many journeys through the Digestion System! It all started when, I was ordered by this nice young lady at the Burger Café down in London. Introduction

  15. I am made up of four basic types of food, fats, proteins, sugars, and starches, which make a nice hamburger. I began at the mouth and was all chewed up. Then, three pairs of salivary glands secreted saliva to start the breakdown of starches into simple sugars. Process 1

  16. Then I traveled down the esophagus. Now that was fun, being lumps of bolus squeezed down the stomach. After that I was churned and mixed and gastric glands secreted enzymes, to begin the digestion of proteins. Process 2

  17. The partly digested food(me) left the stomach through the pyloric valve. Which entered the twenty -food long small intestine. Tiny fingerlike projections called villi absorbed me in the small intestine. Then the liver and gall bladder added bile while the pancreatic juices acted of my proteins. The blood picked up my digested food and carried it through all the parts of the body. Process 3

  18. My undigested food moved through the six-foot-long large intestines where some water was removed. My waste was stored before leaving through the rectum. The appendix was not needed to digest me. Process 4

  19. The Story Ends….. • Now that I have told you about how I got digested was and adventure that you will never forget. • I hope you enjoyed my story. Bye!! • By, • Melissa Kraw, Alexus Lyons Room 15
