  4. Problem #1- Affordability • High housing costs • Severe for Asian Pacific Islanders • Difficult to pay for other necessities: • Prescription Drugs • Energy • Transportation

  5. Improving Affordability • 1. Increase Federal Section 8 vouchers • 2. Build more affordable housing • 3. Preserve existing affordable stock

  6. Problem #2- Adequacy • Overcrowding • Condition of housing

  7. Addressing Adequacy • 1. Increase CDBG for rehabilitation • 2. Inform seniors of new state loan program • 3. Protect seniors from unscrupulous contractors

  8. Problem #3- Accessibility • Preference to age in place • Three major problem areas in home: • Getting in and out of house • Getting up and down stairs • Safely using the bathroom

  9. Improving Accessibility • Role of Home Modifications • Increase independence • Avoid accidents • Help caregivers • Save money

  10. Problem #4 - Appropriateness • Housing unconnected with services • Limited options • Lack of innovative models • Housing is “one size fits all”
