  3. 2010 Census Status Update • All operations during 2010 on schedule • Mailback rates comparable to 2000; somewhat more proxy response in nonresponse followup • Initial indications are that the 2010 operations yielded more consistent results over tracts • Less variation in mailback rates • Less variation in completeness of population counts • Indications of a better address list • A return of over $1.6 billion because of absence of natural disasters and presence of active management controls 22

  4. 2010 Census Data Releases • National and State Population Counts Coming before December 31, 2010 • Official counts of the entire U.S. population for purposes of apportionment, as mandated by U.S. Constitution • Includes basic demographic information, as well as home ownership and relationship to householder data 3
