  1. New Student Orientation Don Davis & Kittie Rehrig September 14, 2010

  2. The Impact of new students • During the 2010 DSTP testing session, 6,363 students were tested. • 661 were not enrolled in Appoquinimink School District last year. • That’s roughly 1 in 10 students new to the District, or about 2 or 3 per class.

  3. Goal: Students new to the district will meet with academic success. Students entering the Appoquinimink School District will meet or exceed state and local standards within one year of enrolling in our school district.

  4. To be completed within the first week of student registration: • New Student Inventory - to be completed by parents/guardian at the time of registration • Building administrator meeting with parent/guardian • Teacher telephone call to the home • Orientation to the school culture - to be held weekly.

  5. To be completed within the second week of student registration: • Teacher feedback form • Academic assessment of student • Success plan developed

  6. To be completed within 30 days of student registration: • Counselor telephone call to the home

  7. Throughout the School Year • Each school will organize a team that will be responsible for monitoring the progress of each new student. The progress monitoring will be completed at each interim and report card time. • Students can be dismissed from the process as they achieve success academically, socially, with attendance and any other concerns that are identified by the team.

  8. Monitoring • The new student orientation process will be audited for fidelity after the first six weeks of school and throughout the school year. • Review of student data – academics, attendance and discipline at each marking period
