Taylor on Trial • Next Wednesday, we will be holding two trials during out class period; in both cases, Taylor Greer is the defendant. • You will each be assigned a specific job to do during one of the trials (and will be the jury in the other), which you will have to prepare for over the weekend and on Monday night for homework. • You now have a chance to tell me your preference in roles: • Prosecution/Defense: debate, leadership, and improvisation skills • Witnesses: thorough character and text research, creativity • Judge: leadership and time management • Stenographer/Member of the Press: note-taking and summarizing skills

  3. Bean Trees Vocabulary Choose a vocab. word from your assigned chapter – try to avoid something that seems very slang or dialectical! Bean Trees Vocabulary • Abridged Entry – A Way with Words • For your word, create – • A short, simple definition (as short as you can while still getting meaning across) • Three synonyms that you could use your word in place of • A new sentence that uses your word as naturally as possible • A short reflection on how this word might be useful to know/why you picked it(no need to go longer than a sentence or two with this)

  5. Share out Vocab. Homework! • Put your homework assignment on your desk and circulate around the room to take notes on each other’s words – you will be held responsible for knowing the SHORT DEFINITION ONLY of each word, but write down anything that you think will help you! • As/after you circulate, put a star sticker next to the 10 words that you think are the most useful/interesting • NOTE: You aren’t judging your classmates’ work, just the words themselves!

  6. The Final Chapter • Time to finish reading the book together in class!
