  3. What is Teaching Portfolio ? (1/2) An organized description of instructors major strengths and teaching achievements Source: www.emory.edu

  4. What is Teaching Portfolio ? (2/2) It is a very individual and personal statement about teaching It contains two elements – evidence of teaching and reflections It should answer – 1)why do you teach and 2) how do you teach. (these are tough questions) It should be a product of collaborations (with students, colleagues, mentors, and others) It is an opportunity if you don’t have any teaching experience A teaching philosophy lays out the thesis of the portfolio.

  5. Teaching Philosophy (a.k.a thesis statement) • It should answer two questions: • What do you expect your students to achieve intellectually • How can you help them to acquire those? • Therefore, it should answer: how and why do you teach? why do you teach the way you teach? what are your teaching goals, methods and strategies? What is teaching philosophy? It is a broad personal statement about one’s teaching
