Mission The mission of Special Olympics Texas is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

  3. Vision It is our vision to become the premier provider of Special Olympics training and competition in the world. We approach each endeavor with a single intent - to improve the quality of life for our athletes. The challenges of the future are embraced with enthusiasm and commitment, ensuring that the changing face and needs of our athletes are met.

  4. Qualifications to participate • 8 yrs. old and older • I.Q. of 70 or lower • Asperger • Down Syndrome • Autism • Intellectual disability • Medical form • SO Medical on file in our office (Must be on form attached) • Parent permission form on file (form attached)

Young Athletes Program (YAP) Qualifications: Must be between the ages of 2 - 7 years old Go to:www.specialolympics.org Click on: Young Athletes Information about the young athletes program : Young athletes Activities Guide Training DVD Brochure Equipment End of the year Activity Presentation @ the Delco Center (TBA) The Young Athletes Program can be implemented at any elementary campus by a staff member, parent volunteer or an adaptive p.e. teacher. Sports AISD Offers • Bowling (September - December) • Unified Bowling (September-December) Sunday evening 4-6 • Basketball (January - March) • Gymnastics (February - May) Monday nights 6-8 • Soccer (March – May) • Track & Field (March - May) Special Olympics Texas offers 22 sports: Aquatics Athletics, Basketball, Bocce, Bowling, Cycling, Equestrian, Figure Skating, Floor Hockey, Golf, Gymnastics, Kayaking, Powerlifting, Roller Skating, Sailing, Soccer, Softball, Speed Skating, Table Tennis, Tennis, Triathlon Volleyball.
