  3. The Problem There are many kids who don’t have access to a computer at home and need to go somewhere to do their work quietly. Kids that don’t have computers at home struggle more than they should to get their assignments turned in on time. Kids that go in before or during school don’t have a lot of time. Most buses don’t get to the school until 8:20 and school starts at 8:45. If students go in during lunch they only have thirty-five minutes to work and they must have a pass from the teacher that gave the assignment.

  4. Goals: Objectives: • I want to help decrease the occurrence of late assignments. • I want to improve the academic achievements. • I want to give each and every kid an opportunity to be able to work on the computers • To increase academic achievements • To increase assignment completions

  5. Activities • The computer lab will be opened to any student at Georgetown High School who is in need of a computer for any assignment as long as it is school related. • The students will need to sign up a day in advance to reserve a computer and to let the teacher on duty know how many students will be there that day.

  6. Timeline • It would start the either the first week of school or the second. • Depending on how early teachers start assigning assignments on the computer. • It would continue through the school year until about the last week of school. • It would be closed during the holidays just like the school itself. The hours would be from when school gets out at 3:45 PM to 8:00 PM.

  7. Funding Required • To start there would be a trial of teachers. • If it seems the need to be a high demand we will apply for grants. • Funding for a bus to take kids home. • Before getting money for a bus, we will start with the students being responsible for their transportation home. If this is a problem then we will apply for a grant to get a school bus.

  8. Administrative Support • The principal: Mr. Tucker said, “I feel incorporating a computer lab for after school use would be great academically, prompting a positive learning environment as a whole in the Georgetown community.” • We need his approval to keep the lab opened after school hours. • Teacher: Mrs. Gilly said, “It would be very beneficial to the community and to those who don’t have access to computer anywhere else.” • We need several teachers to volunteer to stay after school to watch the kids until 8 PM.
