  1. Tech Ed - 9 Lab Safety & SRA Proposal Report Mr. Saunders SRA Lab Safety & ProposalPowerPoint Project This is a Partnered/Group Assignment Remember: This will be part of you Final Exam Evaluation!!!

  2. Prepare a four to six minute PowerPoint presentation of your proposal. • *All design team members must participate in the presentation. • ***Open a PowerPoint presentation** Save it on your “H” Drive in your Tech-Ed folder that you have made. • Name it “______And______’s Lab Safety & SRA Proposal Report “ • A working partner must do the same thing…. save it in two places

  3. Layout: Slide #1 (Title Slide) • Title This Slide with: Lab Safety & SRA Proposal Report • Include Your Name(s), Date, and a Graphic. Slide #2 (Table of Contents ) • 5 main areas = check your notes below and include all the items listed ther • Personal Safety In The Production Lab • Using Hand Tools • Using Portable Power Tools • Using Machinery • The Proposal

  4. Lab Safety and Syringe Robotic Arm Report By Becky, Jessica and Samantha Term 2 Winter 2005/06

  5. Table of Contents *Personal Safety in the Production Lab *Using Hand Tools *Using Portable Power Tools *Using Machinery *The Proposal

  6. Slide #3-#24. • Each slide from this one forward will be related to slide #2 and will be eventually hyperlinked to it. • Work on each area and find Internet sites and information related to safety for the listed presentation topics. • Create a slide for each topic listed. Provide a title, a picture along with a short description of it’s use and safety. • Use Hyperlinks, animation, sound, graphics (jpeg), Video (mpeg), etc.

  7. Slide #25 - #30 The Proposal • Last Slide #30 References (Cite your sources here, www and others)

  8. 5 Main Areas & Topics • Personal Safety In The Production Lab • Explore what is available for a person’s protection while working in a shop or lab.

  9. Personal Safety Some safety hints we have are: Wear your safety goggles when around machinery. • If you have long hair keep it tied up. • Stay by the machines until they’ve stopped completely. • Don’t wear clothing that’s too loose. • If you don’t know how to work a machine ask for help.

  10. 2) Using Hand Tools • Measuring Tools • Wrenches and Screwdrivers • Metalworking Tools

  11. Measuring tools • Some measuring tools are tape measure, ruler, combination square, protractor, triangles and compass. • Make sure you measure everything accurately. • “measure twice, cut once”

  12. Hand Tools • Measuring tools • Wrenches • Screwdrivers • Metalworking tools

  13. 3) Using Portable Power Tools • Hot Glue guns • Pneumatic Tools • Electric Drills • Jig Saws • Circular Saws • Routers • Electric Sanders

  14. Portable hand tools • Hot Glue Gun • Pneumatic Tools • Electric Drills • Jig Saws • Circular Saws • Routers • Electric sanders

  15. Jig Saws • A jig saw works the same way as a scroll saw, the blade goes in a up and down. • You can use jig saws to cut inside and outside cuts. • Keep the jig saw flat on the surface of the material you are cutting.

  16. 4) Using Machinery • Drill Press • Band Saw • Jointer • Thickness Planer • Compound Mitre Saw • Table Saw • Belt and Disk Sander • Grinder • Scroll Saw

  17. Machinery • Drill press • Band Saw • Jointer • Thickness Planner • Compound Mitre Saw • Table Saw • Belt and Disc Sander • Grinder • Scroll Saw

  18. Compound Mitre Saw • Also know as the chop saw • A rotating blade similar to the circular saw is used to cut the wood. • Have wood in position before turning on the mitre saw.

  19. 5) The Proposal The Proposal should include: • Digital Pictures documenting the construction process • Video Demonstration of your SRA • Description of any hydraulic, mechanical and electrical systems • The Program • Be sure to describe the problem and the solution • Include recommendations for improvement

  20. The Proposal • The problem & the solution • Pictures • Video Demonstration • Mechanical System • Hydraulic system • Electrical system • The program

  21. The problem was to design a robot that could move a “doit” from point A to Point B, that are at least 10 cm apart and a different of 10 cm in high. Our solution was to make an articulated robot that uses syringes and has a DC circuit that raises a flag when the “doit” drops into a hole (Point B). Our Solution follows all guide lines and works well to move the “doit”. The problem & The Solution

  22. Pictures of Production We started making our robotic arm by cutting and sanding the pieces of wood for the frame. We then added the tray to catch the ball in. After that we made the arm.

  23. More Pictures Of production After we finished assembling the arm we added the syringes and hooked up the DC circuit. We added food coloring to the syringes. Then took it to the painting booth and painted it black and pink.

  24. Video Demonstration Robot Arm Video!! DC Circuit Video!!

  25. Mechanical System • Our mechanical system is very simple, designed for easy use. • The SRA is an articulated robot, that uses four sets of hydraulics to move the arm from side to side, up and down, and to open and close the claw. • The hydraulics use colored water to push the robot to move it.

  26. Our hydraulic system uses four pairs of hydraulics( 8 syringes). The blue syringe controls the claw opening and closing it to pick up the ball. The Green one is to move the arm up and down to pick up the ball from the platform The redand the purple syringes are to move the arm from point A to point B. The purple syringe pushes the arm to point B and the red syringe pushes the arm back to point A Hydraulic system

  27. Electrical System • Our electrical is a battery that powers a motor to rise our flag up our flag pole. • By attaching a piece of fishing wire to a flag then though a hole in a flag pole, you can connect it to a motor. Our DC circuit flag!

  28. The program • First start by opening the claw by pulling the blue syringe. Then close it on the object you are picking up by pushing the blue syringe. • Push and hold the green syringe in will pushing the purple syringe to move the arm over the opening to drop the object (point B). • Carefully lower the arm by pulling the green syringe. Then releasing the object by pulling the blue syringe. • The object should drop into the hole, rising the flag. • To move arm back to point A. raise the arm by pressing and holding the green syringe and then push the red syringe to you move the arm to point A.
