  3. Film also changed the novel’s open ending to a more Hollywood ending. • Capote wanted Marilyn Monroe for the part of Holly. • Music was done by Henry Mancini • Also wrote music for 2006 “Pink Panther” • Budget was $2,500,000 • Released in 1961 • On location shot at the Tiffany’s in New York tough due to big crowds, Hepburn’s disgust for pastries, and an accident with a near elctrocution. • “Moon River” sung by Hepburn herself not dubbed.

  4. The image of Hepburn’s character carrying a cigarette holder was one of the iconic images of 20th century cinema. • Buddy Ebsen, small role as Holly’s ex, went on to star in “The Beverly Hillbillies” • Critic’s hate one aspect of the film and that is Rooney’s racially stereotyped performance as Mr. Yunioshi. • Won Academy Awards for original score, and best song for “Moon River” • Grammy for best soundtrack • WGA award for Best Written Amer. Drama

  5. Steve McQueen offered role of Paul but unable to due to “Wanted: Dead or Alive” commitment. • Peppard was a student of method technique. • Hepburn had a hard time working with him, but remained good friends. • Made into a play which was a flop. • John Frankenheimer originally hired to direct Monroe in lead role. • When Hepburn got the part she had him paid off and another director hired because she had never heard of him. • Tiffany’s doors opened on Sunday for the first time in order to allow shooting for the film.

  6. Holly’s apartment is actually much larger on the interior than the exterior shots show. • Movie shot only three months after Hepburn gave birth to her first son. • Holly’s couch is actually an old-fashioned bath tub. • Hepburn always thought she was miscast as Holly, although it was one of her most popular roles. • Executives originally wanted to get rid of the song “Moon River”, to which Hepburn responded with “Over my dead body.” • Hepburn had a salary of $750,000 • 30% of the budget

  7. Hepburn hated throwing Cat out into the rain. • There were about 9 different cats used in the film. • Capote based Holly on Carol Grace, future wife of Walter Mathau. • Story about Paul getting a $50 check for is called a ‘Roman Capade’, a reference to Hepburn’s first role in “Roman Holiday”
