  2. What is Domestic Violence? • Domestic Violence is usually a confrontation between family members or household • It involves verbal abuse, physical abuse, some sexual abuse

  3. A topic we don’t hear about often

  4. Statistics Show • Only 10 percent of Domestic Violence cases are reported. • With the victim testifying makes it hard for the abuser to be accused and put behind bars.

  5. The beginning of Domestic • In the 1800’s to part of the 1900’s women were told to clean the house and raise the children • Cook and clean • Be home and take care of the house

  6. Words do hurt! This is usually where the abuser uses words of misconduct to help lower the victims self esteem The verbal abuse can be as harmful to the victim as physical abuse would be

  7. Physical abuse • The offender has no other way to control the victim so he or she will lead to physical harm • Not giving the victim any time to notice what will happen next

  8. Weapons may be involve.

  9. How does this effect the children?

  10. Find a safe place • Any where you can get away from the abuser where you may feel safe

  11. Call the police • 911 If you wait too long to call you might just become the next victim of domestic violence This just might be your phone if you don’t take the correct steps

  12. Seek some medical attention. • Go to your local doctor • Call an ambulance • Seek help within your local hospital • What you think is a minor problem is actually a bigger problem.

  13. The tragedy that happened to my family. • In 2002 my grandmother was taken away from me a day before Thanksgiving . Her boyfriend had taken her life away because she had been cooking the food her children wanted and not the food that her boyfriend wanted. He had been upset and one thing lead to another. The man who has taken my grandmother is now serving 50 to life sentence. So don’t let this happen to you.
