  2. The angel of Goliad Francisca Alvarez is now known as the “Angel of Goliad". I chose her because of her kindness and bravery.

  3. why she is the “angel of Goliad”? • She is "Angel of Goliad “ because of her kindness when she saved Major Miller and his Natchez volunteers from death at the Massacre at Golliad.

  4. Early life • Born: • October 4,1871 • In Mexico • Father: • Louis Ramirez • Mother : • never listened on birth certificate

  5. Adulthood • She was thought to be married to Captain Telesforo Alvarez, Commander of Mexican Centralista Forces • He was under General Jose de Urrea in the CopanoBay and Victoria Regions

  6. Francisca’s heroic actions • She entered the fort the night before the battle at Golliad and led some of the men to safety and hid them, saving their lives. • Followed Captain Alvarez to Matamoros where she continued to aid the Texans held prisoner there.

  7. Francisca’s journey • Followed Captain Alvarez back to Mexico after the war. • She was abandoned by him. • She returned to Matamoros penniless. • She was befriended by Texans who had heard of her help during the war.

  8. Final years • She died on May 30,1957 • Kansas City, Missouri
