  2. Asthma is a disease caused by genes. It affects the lungs of a person, causing their bronchioles to swell and hurt. What Is Asthma?

  3. Symptoms • Constant coughing and/or wheezing (especially at night) • Shortness of breath and chest pains • Can't be ”grown out of”, it is with you for your whole life.

  4. Causes • You can inherit asthma and scientists believe you may also be able to develop it • Asthma attacks can be caused by things such as dust, exercise, dry/cold weather, allergies and many other things

  5. How Can Asthma Attacks be Prevented? You can prevent asthma attacks from happening to you if you... • Take the medications prescribed to you by your doctor • Avoid being places and doing things that may trigger an attack • Don't smoke or go near people who are

  6. History of Asthma • Asthma has existed since before Ancient Egypt • Georg Ebers Papyrus was found in Egypt in the 1870's • It has prescriptions for over 700 remedies • Some of them were for asthma

Examples Inhalants Advair Xopenex HFA Flovent HFA Oral Medicine Singulair Prednisone Theophyline Injections Xolair Treatments • You need to take medications • Inhalants are good because they go right to the lungs • Oral medicines are long-lasting yet they need a higher dosage • Injections are usually only used at hospitals in an emergency because the medicine goes right to the blood stream so it's good
