  2. Rule #1 • When a word ends in -y, • change the -y to -i • before adding suffixes • -s, -ed, -ly, -ness, or -age.

  4. Rule #2 • Keep the -Y when adding -ing, • to avoid having two i’s in a row. • Marry • Marrying • Try • Trying

  5. Rule #3 • If the final -y • has a vowel (aeiou) before it, • Keep the -y • When adding a suffix. • Say • Saying • Says • Exception:said

  6. Exceptions (sorry!) • Shy • Shyly • Sly • Slyly
