LYIT Strategic Plan 2007 - 2013 • In framing the plan every effort was made to align Institute strategy with national policy objectives. • A particular focus was the emphasis in the NDP 2007-2013 on an all-island agenda. Position LYIT as a leading participant in the development of the all-island approach articulated in the NDP 2007-2013 exploiting the significant existing collaboration with the University of Ulster.

Mission & Profile Mission: To continuously develop as an academic institution of international repute, serving regional and national needs and pursuing, in a collaborative fashion, an ambitious progressive agenda that delivers on the aspirations of its vibrant Institute population and its external stakeholders. Vision: To be the higher education institution of choice for a wide spectrum of learners on a broad range of employment-focused, high quality education and training programmes delivered in a supportive and increasingly innovative learning environment.  To make a major contribution to the development of the region in partnership with stakeholders through the exploitation of research, innovation and enterprise.

LYIT at a Glance(A Regionally Engaged Institution) • 100% increase in student enrolment since the mid 90s • County Donegal at 41% (2008) had the highest retention rate for graduate employment in the 26 counties outside of Dublin, Cork, Galway and Limerick rank higher • 66% of LYIT graduates in work were working in Donegal (2012) • Census 2011 Donegal ranked number 9 nationally for the number of people with higher education qualifications • Higher education participation rates for students from the county have increased dramatically (83% of leaving cert cohort) - 2012 • 30% of the LYIT full-time student population are mature students • LYIT creates an economic impact over €100 million per annum to the local economy • Letterkenny campus, additional 77 acres acquired (2010) • Wind Energy Centre opened in Killybegs 2011, emerging plans for seafood development and renewable energy • LYIT employs 320 people, with 3000 + students enrolled on full-time programmes • 40% of all school leavers from County Donegal schools attend LYIT
