  2. Do Now Your Revision of Essay 1 is due Tuesday, 10/2 • Finish this sentence: “ In general, I believe people interpret stories and texts the way they do because _________”

IN YOUR GROUP • Choose one sample paragraph to work with. • Under “Possible Paragraph Structures” choose option 1 or 2. • Rewrite the paragraph following the possible paragraph structure directions exactly. • For steps 3 &4, use the FRAMING LANGUAGE to incorporate Fish and your theory of interpretation. Note: you are invited, but not required to use the framing language in your revision. However, it can only help your essay. It is a useful tool to make sure your ideas have the required focus and complexity necessary to fulfill the assignment!

  5. With your Peer Review Group • Return your partner’s essays with your comments. • Make sure you also return the pink peer review sheet. • Tell your partners anything they will need to know to understand your comments – give context or explain any special comments you made.

  6. My Comments • Here are some symbols I use when I comment: Sp= spelling _?_ = I don’t understand = wrong word/interp. = interpretation spell checker mistake • Just like you, I sometimes underline important ideas and summarize your ideas in the margins. • Look everywhere for comments – backs of pages, on your comments, etc. • Generally, my comments fall into three categories: QUESTIONS ? POSITIVE + SUGGESTIONS ∧

  7. Solo • Start working on the Revision Worksheet • You have about 15 minutes • If you do not finish in class, finish at home in preparation for your revision. • You will hand it in with your revision.

  8. Some Revision Tips • TYPOS: Re-type your draft, with the paper copy lying on the desk next to you. (This will help you catch typos, like “her utters were full of milk” or “he sent a massage to his father”) • SUMMARIZING: Don’t be afraid to spend some time introducing your reader to the essay. You can introduce your ideas, the story you read, the assignment, and of course, please spend some time introducing Fish’s ideas.

  9. How to Turn In Your Revision • Print and staple your revision. Note: I won’t accept an unstapled draft. • Collect these items for class: • Your revision • Your draft with my comments • Your 2 pink peer reviews • Your Revision Worksheet from class today Note: I will not accept a revision without the draft. Remember, this assignment will be graded
