  2. Authentic Leadership According to Boas & al. (2005) : • One is not born a leader, one becomes one • Importance of the life experiences • The main characteristics of authentic leader are: • Authentic leaders do not fake their leadership. • Authentic leaders do not take on a leadership role or engage in leadership activities for status, honor or other personal rewards. Rather, they lead from a conviction. • Authentic leaders are originals, not copies. • Authentic leaders are leaders whose actions are based on their values and convictions.

  3. Quotes “The best leaders will be transparent with their intentions, having a seamless link between their espoused values, actions and behaviours” (Luthans & Avolio, 2003) Someone who is ‘themselves’ (George 2003) “Leaders who are both psychologically self-aware and philosophically ethically sound” (Fiona Beddoes-Jones, 2007)

  4. Ethic and trust : vital to effective leadership Peshawaria : “A team with high trust will similarly produce results faster and at lower cost.” • Ensure your highest performing and most dedicated (top 20%) subordinates trust you without a doubt • Maintain a reasonably high level of trust with your solid citizens (the middle 60%) – subordinates that are good but not great • Don’t invest too much time trying to get your bottom 20% to trust you - Character, Competence, Consistency, Caring, and Centricity.

  5. Ethic and trust : vital to effective leadership “People ask me how I’ve had the interest and zeal to hang in there and do what I’ve done. I say, ‘Because my father treated me with very stern discipline: he trusted me.’ I’m stuck, I’ve got to see the trust through. He trusted me. I trust other people. And they did the job." Robert Galvin, Jr., Former CEO, Motorola

  6. Ethic and trust : vital to effective leadership Effective leaders are alike in one crucial way : “they all have a high degree of emotional intelligence” Graig Frazier
