  3. Lower Austria- the political system • The political head of Niederösterreich is the Landeshauptmann (governor). Appointed by the Landtag; Head of the State government, executive body • The legislative body is the Landtag (provincial parliament), 56 Members, elected every 5 Years • The Office of state Government (Amt der NÖ Landesregierung) supports the State government in fulfilling its tasks. • Office is currently devided into groups and departments: • General directorate, finance, culture, science& education,agriculture&forestry, economic, water, • healthandsocial, infrastructure, • spatialplanning, environment & traffic
