2. What is HP Linkup? • HP LinkUp allows users to connect DT PC to other home computers • All computers must be on the same network for HP LinkUp to function • HP DT computers are the “viewer”, while the connected NB is the “sender” • Viewer: Main unit that consumer uses to access the remote computer • Sender: Remote unit that “viewer” unit is accessing • Due to BIOS lock on HP LinkUpSW, ONLY DTs can function as “viewer” • On DT unit, NB screen shows as a “window in a window” • Similar concept to Windows Remote Desktop • User can fully interact with remote computer & transfer files between units • Wall exists between DT unit and NB unit, though • Transferring files is accomplished through “Send to…” context menu

HP LinkUp usage Impressions • Machines used for evaluation: • DT viewer: HP TouchSmart 610 • NB sender: HP Pavilion dm4 (Zidane 1.0) • Setup was fairly easy • Remote computer screen went black when HP LinkUpwas activated • Remote unit could not show as full screen on desktop “viewer” unit • Likely resolution limitations • Able to open any file or run any application from remote “sender” unit • Minimal (if not zero) Input lag controlling remote computer • Videos viewed from remote unit was choppy • Had trouble outputting sound from remote computer • Transfer of files through context menu was not intuitive • Seems like a workaround

4. HP LinkUp Recommendations • Recommendation is to NOT put HP LinkUp on CNB platforms • TAM is very low • Purchase a HP DT first, user can use any NB from any brand as the remote “sender” unit • Purchase an HP NB first, user can only use an HP DT as the “viewer” unit • Therefore, in order for preinstalling HP LinkUp on CNB units to make any sense, consumers must own both an HP NB and an HP DT • Use case is small • Functionality is somewhat redundant, depending on Windows version • NBs already ship with Remote Desktop Assistance and HomeGroup • Remote Desktop Connection functionality available on limited versions of Win7 • Could result in service calls • Must explain to users that an HP DT PC is required for the application to work
