Maglev Trains, What Are They And How Do They Work? • Maglev trains are electro-magnetic trains that use electro-magnetic cushions instead of wheels for levitation and propulsion. • Maglev trains have an overview of the towers and overhead track structure from which the passenger cars would hang. Clearance between the underside of the cars and the ground would be maintained at a minimum of 18 feet. This would eliminate the need for grade crossings in populated areas, and allow the system to pass over agricultural land without disrupting production.

  3. What Countries Use Maglev Trains? Several countries use maglev trains. The number one continent is Asia. America is considering putting a maglev track from Washington D.C. to Baltimore, then from Baltimore to Boston.

  4. How Are Maglev Tracks Made? • Maglev tracks are made by using two rows of super strong magnets parallel to the engine to hover it in the air. To make the engine move the engineer can change the strength on the trains magnets to start the engine.

  5. How Are Maglev Trains Designed? • These trains are designed with two rows of magnets parallel to the track. They are made with a curved circular front and a strong large electrical system.

  6. How Fast Can They Travel? • The Maglev Trains can travel from 0-342 miles per hour. The record speed of a Maglev Train is 360 per hour.

  9. Map • On our map we ran our maglev from New York to San Fransisco. In between those two cities we stopped at Indianapolis, Austin, and Phoenix. We stopped at Indianapolis because it had many atractions including Indianapolis Zoo located in White River State Park and the The Children's Museum of Indianapolis. We stopped at Austin because 842,592 people. And we chose Phoenix because it has a population of 1,488,750 people.

  10. Train Design • Our group chose the design of the train because we thought it would cut down on wind resistance and would carve the air better when having excesive speed.

  11. Train Test Runs • We ran our train 3 times. The first time the time was 3.26 seconds and our group made no adjustments. The second try was 3.53 seconds and we made no adjustments again. Our third time we was 3.19 seconds and we got a new base for the train.
