RESULTS (7 OUT OF 23) • FLARE POSITION SUCCESSFULLY PLOTTED USING COMPASSES • NOT ONE PHONE CALL FROM THE PUBLIC!! • COMMS WORKED EFFECTIVELY • TRACKPLUS WORKED WELL • BOTH FLIR EQUIPPED HELICOPTERS PICKED UP THE NAIAD AND JET SKI. • NONE OF THE HOT WATER BOTTLES LOCATED BY FLIR • SEVERAL TARGETS PICKED UP BY NITESUN WITH IR FILTER • NEITHER CAP LOCATED • TWO OF THE FOUR PFD’S LOCATED BY NVG • ONLY 3 OF THE HOT WATER BOTTLES LOCATED BY NVG

CONCLUSIONS FLIR • HAS LOW POD FOR PERSONS IN THE WATER SENARIO • NARROW FIELD OF VIEW • NEEDS TO BE IN HIGH POD AREA • PERSON IN WATER WILL RAPIDLY COOL TO ENVIRONMENT MAKING IDENTIFICATION DIFFICULT • NEEDS TO BE SKILLED OPERATOR NVGs • NVGS PROVED TO BE MOST EFFECTIVE • IROQUOIS MOST SUCCESSFUL DUE TO FLIGHT PROFILE OF 250FT AMSL AT 70 KTS – DARK NIGHT • MULITPLE NVGS IMPROVE CHANCE OF DETECTIBILITY • GREATER AREA COVERAGE
