  1. Name DateClass KRS Kindergarten Readiness Skills October Assessment Early Childhood I and II students will use the Kindergarten Readiness Skills packet to evaluate the preschoolers knowledge in October. These scores will be compared to the scores at the end of the year in May. ECE students may not prompt or help the child in any way. If a child does not answer correctly, don’t say anything , do NOT correct him/her, say the correct answer, etc. – just move right on to the next thing. Teacher: Please put the child’s name, your name, and the date in the box on the bottom of each page that you test.

  2. Rhyming Have your preschooler sound out the object on the left and draw a line to the object on the right that SOUNDS the same. Do NOT say the objects out loud for the child and do NOT prompt, point, or make corrections. Child’s name Your name DateLions Tigers Bears

  3. Recognizing Lower Case Letters Point to a letter and have the preschooler say what letter it is. If he/she is correct, circle the letter; if incorrect, don’t say anything and go on to the next one. Do NOT prompt, give hints, or go in alphabetical order. c x m r d z p k l y s e w f b i v q g n o t h u j a Child’s name Your name DateLions Tigers Bears

  4. Writing the Numbers One Through Five Ask the preschooler to write the numbers one through five. If he/she writes a number backwards, that is fine – that is NOT a sign of dyslexia until a much older age! If he/she cannot write one or more of the numbers, that is fine. If he/she can write numbers to ten, that is fine – he/she may keep on going up to ten. Child’s name Your name DateLions Tigers Bears

  5. Counting Out Loud to 20 Ask the preschooler to count out loud to 20 while you quickly record his/her answers in the space below. If he/she gets the numbers out of order, do not correct him/her – write it down exactly as he/she says it. Child’s name Your name DateLions Tigers Bears

  6. Beginning Sounds Ask the preschooler to tell you what the picture/letter is, and then ask him/her to make the SOUND of that object. (It is OK to tell him/her what the object is if he/she is not sure what it is.) For example, the beginning sound of the word “rain “would be “ruh”. If he/she makes the correct beginning sound, circle that letter. Aa Bb Cc DdEe Ff GgHh Ii JjKkLl Mm NnOo Pp QqRr Ss TtUu Vv Ww Xx YyZz Child’s name Your name DateLions Tigers Bears
